Canadian International School of Guangzhou (CISGZ) prioritizes student growth, professional excellence, and community involvement. Founded in 2012 by the Canadian International Education Organization (CIEO), CISGZ meets the high-quality standards and needs of international families living in Guangzhou. The state-of-the-art campus opened in June 2018, with capacity for 1,000 students. From a heated indoor swimming pool and a 600-seat theatre, to cutting-edge STEAM labs and large, well-resourced classrooms, CISGZ is at the forefront of education.
CIS serves 600 students from over 40 countries. The school is comprised of an Early Childhood Education (ECE) program and Elementary School (PreK2 to Grade 5) and a Secondary School (Grades 6 to 12). CIS delivers the Alberta curriculum to students in Kindergarten to Grade 12. The inquiry- and concept-based International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP) curriculum framework is employed in ECE and Elementary, and the school is implementing an honours program and Advanced Placement courses in Secondary. CIS has been recognized as an IB World School in July 2024 when its IB Primary Years Program was authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). The school offers a range of extra-curricular activities, including the fine and performing arts, robotics, and athletics, allowing students to explore interests beyond academics.
With a dedicated staff of qualified educators from 14 countries, CIS prioritizes a supportive learning environment and ongoing professional development to ensure high-quality instruction to meet the needs of a diverse student body. The school invests in continuous professional development for its staff, offering workshops, seminars, and collaborative learning opportunities. Teachers are encouraged to pursue further education and certifications, which enhances their instructional practices and benefits student learning. This focus on professional growth ensures that staff remain motivated and equipped to provide a high quality education to CIS students.
The CIS campus boasts outstanding facilities. General and specialist classrooms (art, band/music, dance) are spacious, and the school has a large double gymnasium and fitness centre. There are ample outdoor play spaces with outdoor basketball courts, a large artificial-turf soccer pitch, and a running track. An indoor swimming pool hosts PE lessons and the swim team year round. The spacious library/learning commons is a central hub of learning, and our IDEA Lab is equipped with tools for students to unleash their creativity, tackle-real world problems, and bring their innovative visions to life. The school’s state-of-the-art 600-seat theatre, W-Hall, hosts an array of concerts, performances, guest speakers, and school assemblies. CIS also has a comfortable boarding house which houses weekly boarders from around the region.
CIS graduates matriculate to a wide range of post-secondary institutions across the globe, primarily in Canada, USA, UK, and Australia. In recent years most CIS grads have gained acceptance to top 100 schools and programs worldwide.
